The five things that actually drive your price
1. Size of the container
The biggest lever, and the one most people overthink. Worth knowing: the jump from a 15-yard to a 20-yard is only $50, while ordering a second dumpster because the first one filled up costs you another full rental. When you're genuinely torn between two sizes, sizing up is almost always the cheaper mistake.
2. Weight, not just volume
This is where surprise bills come from at a lot of companies. Landfills charge by the ton, so every rental includes a weight allowance — 2, 3, or 4 tons depending on size. Go over and you pay for the extra tonnage; ours is $60 per ton, and we send you a copy of the landfill receipt so you can see the exact weight yourself.
Most household clean-outs never come close to the limit. Where people get caught is dense material: plaster and lath from an old house, wet carpet, or a load packed with tile. If your project sounds heavy, say so on the phone and we'll size the tonnage honestly up front.
3. How long you keep it
Our rentals include 7 days, which covers the vast majority of projects. Need more time? It's $15 per day or $75 per week — no drama, just call before your window ends. Watch for companies advertising a low rate on a 3-day rental; the price looks great until your project takes a normal amount of time.
4. Where it's going
Distance costs fuel and route time, so most companies price by zone. Our base flat rates cover the metro inside the E-470/C-470 loop. Outside that, we often still deliver for a small distance fee that we quote before you book. You can see exactly where you fall on our service area map.
5. What you're throwing away
Certain materials are restricted, and it's not us being picky — the landfill sets these rules. No dirt, rock, concrete, or shingles (too heavy), and nothing hazardous: chemicals, liquids, oils, batteries, electronics, or freon appliances. One mattress is included; extras are $30 each.

Whoever you rent from, these are the questions that separate an honest quote from a lowball one:
- Is disposal included? Some quotes exclude landfill fees entirely, then bill them after. Ours are always included.
- What's the weight allowance and overage rate? A cheap rate with a 1-ton limit isn't cheap.
- How many days? Compare 7-day to 7-day.
- Is there a trip fee? If a truck arrives and can't place the container — blocked driveway, cars in the way — most companies charge for the wasted trip.
- Is there a fuel or environmental surcharge? A common line item that quietly adds 10%.
Is a dumpster cheaper than junk removal?
Depends on the job. Full-service junk removal crews charge for labor and load volume, and for a couple of furniture items they're often the better call. But once you're clearing a whole garage or demoing a kitchen, a roll-off usually wins on cost — you're paying for the container and disposal, not for someone's time.
